Putin says Russian agricultural industry stable despite pandemic

MOSCOW, Oct 12 (PRIME) -- Russia’s agricultural industry continues to work stably despite severe restrictions linked to the coronavirus pandemic, President Vladimir Putin said on October 11 in a speech to congratulate the farmers.

“I should separately stress that even in the severe conditions stemming from the coronavirus pandemic, in the restrictions regime, the domestic agricultural industry continues to work stably,” he said.

There have been no outages in food supplies during the pandemic, the sawing and the harvest collection campaigns were completed fully and timely, the president added.

“And now we can say that the harvest is good. We have over 120 million tonnes of grain again. I should stress that over 100 million tonne harvests used to be seen as record high only recently, but thanks to your work the volume has become a persisting tradition,” he said.

Putin also said that there is still a lot of work ahead to upgrade and raise the efficiency and competitiveness of Russia’s farming industry.
